The first ever digital photo marathon in Singapore took place on Oct 18.

The Computer Times - Canon Digital Photo Marathon 2003 saw 154 competitors battle the elements, heavy traffic and their own physical exertions in the 12-hour event.

Each participant had to complete three photographic assignments that were given out every four hours.

The photographs from each assignment had to be downloaded, using either Canon i470D printers or card readers. to an array of Apple computers for browsing.

Participants had to choose one photo for each assignment.

The submitted photographs were then wirelessly transmitted to a server - a highly portable Apple Powerbook computer!

Prizes included the new Canon EOS 300D digital SLR camera, Canon i950 photo printer and the Apple eMac.

Prizes totalling $15,000 were sponsored by Canon, while Apple sponsored $6,000 worth of prizes.

Nanyang Polytechnic was the venue for the event.

 
1st prize Lily Yeo

Ms Lily Yeo, 37, shot this scene at the underpass linking Orchard MRT station and Tangs departmental store, using a Canon EOS D60. This photo was also the overall winner of the marathon.

Mohamad Yusran Bin Abdul Ghani

Mr Raul Y. Davadilla, 35, used a Canon PowerShot G2 to shoot this picture of two friends talking. This photo was also the first runner-up in the marathon.   Mr Mohd Yusran Abdul Ghani, 31, used lighted candles to form an outline of Singapore and placed postcards of Singapore scenes inside it. He shot his work using a Fujifilm FinePix S620 Zoom. This photo was also the second runner-up of the marathon.
